The Next-Generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Has Arrived
August 26 2026,
When a truck introduces this many changes at once, it's worth paying attention. The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is getting a genuine overhaul, more powerful engine options, a dramatically larger digital footprint inside the cabin, smarter trailering systems, and upgraded off-road capability. Expected in late 2026, it also brings several firsts to the Sierra name, with Canadian pricing still to be confirmed.
Four Engines Expand the Playbook
The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 will offer four powertrain choices, including two all-new available gasoline V8s. The new 5.7-litre V8 gives buyers another traditional gas option, while the available 6.6-litre V8 is described by GMC as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. The proven Duramax® 3.0-litre Turbo-Diesel remains available for drivers who value diesel torque and long-haul capability, while an enhanced TurboMax® engine rounds out the lineup. Final horsepower, torque, towing, and payload figures have not yet been released, which means the biggest capability numbers are still to come.
More Than 60 Inches of Screens
The cabin is where this Sierra makes one of its biggest technological jumps. GMC says the truck offers more than 60 inches of combined digital displays, the most in its class. The setup includes a 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre, an available 16.3-inch centre display, and an available 11.5-inch front passenger touchscreen. The 16.3-inch centre screen is particularly clever because it can articulate to reveal hidden storage. Meanwhile, the passenger display gives the front-seat passenger their own infotainment space without creating a distraction for the driver.
Super Cruise Can Work While Towing

Available Super Cruise™ hands-free driver assistance technology with trailering capability takes highway driving a step further. A 3-year trial is included, giving compatible-road access to hands-free assistance even while a trailer is connected. For truck owners who spend hours pulling boats, recreational equipment, or work trailers, that is a much more meaningful upgrade than adding another convenience feature.
AT4X Gets Tougher Hardware
The next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 also puts more engineering into off-road control. The AT4X introduces Multimatic® Jounce Control Dampers, designed to improve stability and keep the truck composed when the terrain gets rough. Standard 35-inch mud-terrain tires give the AT4X more clearance and grip for steep climbs, loose surfaces, and trails where ordinary road tires simply are not enough. This is what makes the setup stand apart. The hardware is not there just to make the truck look tougher. GMC is giving the off-road model equipment intended to change what it can actually handle.
Bose Moves Into the Head Restraints
Technology is showing up in unexpected places too. Available Bose® premium front head-restraint speakers are a class-exclusive feature, bringing audio closer to the front occupants instead of relying only on traditional door and dashboard speakers. Up to 8 years of OnStar® Basics also adds remote commands, automatic crash response, and connectivity for select in-vehicle apps.
MultiPro Storage Reworks the Console
Inside, the available Sierra-first MultiPro® centre console combines premium materials with integrated storage. Rather than treating cabin storage as leftover space, GMC has designed the console to play a bigger role in how the front compartment is actually used. That fits the broader direction of the truck: technology and luxury, but with a practical reason behind them.
